Early Azbats

By 1999 Knightfall/Knightquest/Knightsend were over and Jean Paul Valley returned to being Azrael, but his version of Batman was slow to make it into the toys. I think this is the 2nd or 3rd Azbat (aka “the old new Batman”) figure. I always liked Azbats and was a little sad to see him gone. But I knew that he wouldn’t last, hell, everyone did but it was fun in the meantime! Not really sure if he won any brand new fans over that weren’t into Batman before, but it was a fun little shake-up in the Batworld for sure. Knightfall is still TOPS in my all-time Batman arcs.

History of the DCU: George Perez’s Batman

This is possibly my favorite Batman figure I own. It’s from the History of the DC Universe line by DC Direct, and it is based on the art of George Perez. I am not a huge fan of the Teen Titans, Batman Year 3, or Nightwing, but George’s art is great.

BANE

Boston hardcore as well as one the of the best Batman villains ever, yes, BANE. This is the best Bane figure out there, IMO. This is the rarer version with the camo-pants variant. The other version is exactly the same but with black pants.

Bane changed Batman forever in the 1990′s, I don’t know what’s going on now in the Bat-books, with 52 earths or what not, they might have re-written his origin or something, but the definitive BANE books for me will always be ‘Vengeance of Bane’ and the ‘Knightfall’ series in Batman/’Tec. Some of the best Bat-books ever. Graham Nolan, Jim Aparo, Kelly Jones, Norm Breyfogle, Chuck Dixon, Doug Moench those guys are BATMAN. Forget everything else (Yeah yeah Frank Miller, blah blah, the Dark Night is good, I know, but it’s only a few books).

Michael Keaton > Christian Bale

My obsession with all things Batman started in 6th grade and this is the first Batman figure I owned. I liked options, and I didn’t have a lot of money growing up so I wanted my toy purchases to go far. This seemed like a good choice. It was like 2 toys in one, and it was Batman! The figure looked great with the suit on and aside from the gloves looking a little heavy it didn’t seem awkward at all. Which can’t be said about the animated series figure version with the same shtick. Ugh, Batman looks like Iron Man or something there.

dman2123 has the movie one in two versions one from 1990, and one from 1991. I had the earlier one.

Happy Birthday 1989.

Over on Vinyl Noize today, we did a little feature called Flyer Noize. So far, we’ve done two out of three posts on it. In the one that just went up, there was a flyer for a Sick Of It All/Burn show on October first, 1989. Which would have been my 11th birthday. Now, that was over 20 years ago, so I can’t with any certainty say what I got on that day, but as I said on VN, it was most likely Starting Lineup and Batman movie tie in toys, like the ones seen below…

Ellis Burks and Lee Smith were definitely ones I had. I had most of the Boston Red Sox that they did, in fact. Whether or not they came to me on my birthday… couldn’t say for sure. But it’s likely.

Now, the Joker poster above (the one with the arrow drawn pointing at it, what a lazy seller), that I DEFINITELY had in 1989. Probably didn’t get it for my birthday though, but I definitely had it. Whether or not I had the Batman and Batmobile shown up top though… can’t recollect.

DC Direct Batman Long Halloween Collector Set with Graphic Novel

Batman The long Halloween. What can I say that hasn’t already been said? I’m sure the guys at COMICNOIZE can agree that this probably one of the greatest Batman stories ever told. The story is so well written it unfolds like a 1940′s film noir. The artwork is as professional and cinematic like any movie that Christopher Nolan could have directed. If you have not read this story you are really missing out. I’m going to lie and tell you that I read it when it first dropped back in the 90′s, no I read it recently for the first time as of November 2010. I just finished reading Batman Dark Victory and loved it as well. I am currently reading The Haunted Knight and will give you my opinion at a later date. darwinsden is selling this D.C. Direct set that includes the graphic novel. You should grab this you will not regret it.

Christmas comes early !!

knightoftheson is unloading a whole bunch of awesome 80′s and early 90′s toys. He is “selling of his collections from his past to pay for his future”. This a perfect way for some of you who were not able to complete your collections to get all the figures you wanted in one purchase. There currently no bids on these lots but I’m sure that won’t last long.
