History of the DCU: George Perez’s Batman

October 22, 2011 12:56 am Published by Leave your thoughts

This is possibly my favorite Batman figure I own. It’s from the History of the DC Universe line by DC Direct, and it is based on the art of George Perez. I am not a huge fan of the Teen Titans, Batman Year 3, or Nightwing, but George’s art is great. johntroll

BANE

Boston hardcore as well as one the of the best Batman villains ever, yes, BANE. This is the best Bane figure out there, IMO. This is the rarer version with the camo-pants variant. The other version is exactly the same but with black pants. Bane changed Batman forever in the 1990′s, I don’t know what’s going on now in the Bat-books, with 52 earths or what not, they might have re-written his origin or something, but the definitive BANE books for me will always be ‘Vengeance of Bane’ and the ‘Knightfall’ series in Batman/’Tec. Some of the best Bat-books ever. Graham Nolan, Jim Aparo, Kelly Jones, Norm Breyfogle, Chuck Dixon, Doug Moench those guys are BATMAN. Forget everything else (Yeah yeah Frank Miller, blah blah, the Dark Night is good, I know, but it’s only a few books). chevy69ssfan

Oh what! dminervino has more great early 1990′s toys. Cadillacs and Dinosaurs! Holy shit, great, great arcade game, allright cartoons, probably pretty cool comics. Check it out. Of course you want to get started with a nice batch, here you get 6 figures with all the good guys and one of the first bosses, mullet and all! Crucial. httpv://youtu.be/V9c2K4Jl5LI This is like a vegan ‘primitivist’ dream come true! httpv://youtu.be/cZouU3CoSAg Arcade game.   And here crazyegor has a board game!

Lets Get Dangerous!?

Disney was fuckin’ edgy, man. Come on, is “lets get dangerous” a good slogan for a little kid’s cartoon? No way! Anyway, Darkwing Duck, I believe this was the last generation of “Disney Afternoon” cartoons, along with Aladdin, right? I remember watching it around 1992-93, something like that, and I liked that Launchpad was a carry-over from Duck Tales, which I still think was a better cartoon overall, but Darkwing was a totally different, wackier bag. Here you can get 6 figures from dminervino, including faithful Launchpad and the Caped Quack himself.   httpv://youtu.be/Oj32BmWfdl8 I like how Darkwing was also a single-dad.

Elementary, Watson!

Someone gave this figure to me as a gift because they knew I am a big Sherlock Holmes fan, (the movies are sweet but read the books!) check it out, I think it’s awesome. I believe there are some other figures form the same series of people like Einstein, and other literary/historical characters. Seller toy-ko has 3 of em for 10 bucks each, this is the best deal that I saw out there now. httpv://youtu.be/hQgSZXP6qAs

The first time I saw ‘Goonies’ I was actually really scared of Sloth, like didn’t-want-to-look-at-the screen-scared. I was a very impressionable kid. I wish I could buy this and go back to the late 80′s and scare my little, wussie self with it. toysheik has you covered, everyone knows you should only buy toys from royalty! httpv://youtu.be/G-KRGgMB78Y

Zombie Farts, errr Barts

Halloween is creeping up so I’m going to start with some appropriate themes here, 2hockeyfans has a Zombie Bart from Treehouse of Horrors. Isn’t he cute? Love those pockmarks and droopy eye! Check him out. He’s also bendable! and here is a Kidrobot version from whiddenrobot (I like the other one better):

Top notch TMNT wackiness

dcsportscards has something nice from when the TMNT were on top of the world. Back then toy ideas got pretty out there just to have a new TMNT toy. But I think this is one of the things that made these toys extra fun. This series I believe to be the most ridiculous one I’ve ever seen, I think it even beats the Clown-Turtles, because this is TMNT – Farmers. Farmers! Apparently when the Turtles are done battling the Foot Clan and living in the sewers they are farmers, farmers growing …pizza? Who knows. I’d love to read the blurb on this, alas I’ve never owned any. There are a bunch of loose figures around but here is a nice MIB Farmer Mike and his tractor! Yeah. I don’t know why the seller included pics of a loose technodrome and some other shit, maybe you get those as a bonus?

Michael Keaton > Christian Bale

My obsession with all things Batman started in 6th grade and this is the first Batman figure I owned. I liked options, and I didn’t have a lot of money growing up so I wanted my toy purchases to go far. This seemed like a good choice. It was like 2 toys in one, and it was Batman! The figure looked great with the suit on and aside from the gloves looking a little heavy it didn’t seem awkward at all. Which can’t be said about the animated series figure version with the same shtick. Ugh, Batman looks like Iron Man or something there. dman2123 has the movie one in two versions one from 1990, and one from 1991. I had the earlier one. 1990: 1991: Animated: onered1 has this one.

Punk Rock? No! Punk TROLL!

Remember Treasure Trolls? Your little sister probably had one. Well, if those weren’t tough enough for you, there were also BATTLE Trolls! Hell yeah! They were kind of like the Madballs of trolls! I never owned any of these dudes but I remember seeing ads for them all the time and I remember that there was this PUNK troll! What a gnarly little fucker! itsaclassic included Punk Troll’s bio in the auction, check it out: “WHEN LOUD MUSIC WARPED HIS BRAIN, IT CAUSED PUNK TROLL TO BELIEVE HE WAS IRRESISTIBLE TO YOUNG WOMEN! A DRUMMER IN THE BAND METROLLICA, HE DAMAGES HIS ENEMIES’ HEARING, DESTROYS HOTEL ROOMS AND WORRIES THAT NO ONE UNDERSTAND HIM. LOOK FOR HIS FIRST SOLO CD FEATURING THE SMASH HIT “FOXY TROLL LADY” AT A STORE NEAR YOU!” Me and a lot of us Noize Corp bloggers like the punk rock and hardcore so I though it would be fitting to feature him. Anarchy!
