To celebrate the anniversary of the Giant Size X-Men, Hasbro is releasing a limited edition box set of six figures. This set will be a Toys R Us exclusive and will probably sell out quick. thedarknut has 6 sets available so I suggest picking one up now before they are gone. For many comic readers this was the first appearance of most these classic characters.

I never Micro Machines released a Predator line. santeclaus is selling a rare 1996 Predator set from Micro machines. I guess this was back when the 007 set came out and the Star Wars Micro Machine sets. I also remember the Indiana Jones sets. This is so cool a miniature Carl Weathers figure.

santeclaus is selling a nice Japanese Hot Wheels set for Lupin The 3rd Castle of Cagliostro. I own this set, my brother bought it for me when he visited Japan back in 2008. This is a rare set that you will not find here. How come Hot Wheels doesn’t make anything cool here?

I can’t wait for the next Predator movie to come out. The last one by Robert Rodriguez really got me psyched again. gv1666888 ia getting me psyched as well, with this 12″ Medicom Predator figure. You just cannot go wrong with Medicom.

It should be completely obvious to even the most casual of 80s toy owners that M.A.S.K. was basically G.I. Joe mixed with Transformers, only the Transformers don’t really transform- they just sprouted weapons or mini helicopters. I mean, the bad guys were called V.E.N.O.M. It wasn’t exactly subtle. But it made it really cool when the good folks at Hasbro got in on the joke a few years ago and gave M.A.S.K. leader Matt Trakker his own G.I. Joe action figure. If you could read the bio card, you’d see that they even retroactively made V.E.N.O.M. into a subset of Cobra…

Very pleased to see that yeahtoys*07 made with the follow up auction for yesterdays lot of M.A.S.K. drivers, as unless you’re replacing lost or destroyed figures/masks, there’s really no point to a bunch of driver’s with no vehicles. I don’t see the Boulder Hill playset here though; maybe that’s coming this afternoon…

The thing about the M.A.S.K. toys was, the drivers and their masks were so small, they were very easily lost or destroyed (say, if you were a kid with a bad habit of chewing on the masks like bubble gum while you were pondering the next chapter in the adventure you were taking Matt Tracker and company on). They weren’t as small as M.U.S.C.L.E’s, don’t get me wrong, but many a M.A.S.K. or V.E.N.O.M. vehicle ended up short a driver in my day. So if your day was anything like mine, seller yeahtoys*07′s lot of M.A.S.K.’s is gonna be what’s left of your childhood collections saving grace. Unless you also broke the vehicles. Then you’re on your own.

More on M.A.S.K., V.E.N.O.M., and yes, even M.U.S.C.L.E, later on in the week!

Ah, to go back to the days when ECW aired at 3am on the Spanish Channel. Or even just back to the days when they got a prime time slot on Fridays on TNN. That’s when, miracle of miracles, ECW was actually popular enough to justify the making of ACTION FIGURES!

My college roommate and I definitely hit up the nearest Toys R Us as soon as we heard about San Francisco Toys making these to try and find them, and while we got a handful (if memory serves, we picked up Candido, Sabu, Taz, and Justin Credible. What happened to those toys, I have no idea).

As you can see from the Bubba Dudley below, these were not exactly the highest quality toys. In fact, they all had a red lever sticking out of the back to operate whatever “special move” the box claimed they could perform. Yet there’s something pleasantly retro about them that makes me wish I still had the 4 we got back in 1999. Thankfully, ECW action figures appear to be cheap and easy to find on the ‘bay.

A big surprise in my searching however, was that the ECW toyline made it past the first line up! As you can see below, there were at least two more lines: Champion Clashers and Bash of the Brawlers! Who knew?!

littlesomethingforyou
Hell, with the extra lines, even a guy like Nova ended up with an action figure! NOVA!

Who remembers THE TOXIC CRUSADERS~!!

mmat_boutique
Yes, the Toxic Crusaders. Some executives hair brained scheme to take Troma’s decisively non kiddy friendly Toxic Avenger and turn him into part of a Saturday morning environmentally conscious super hero leading a team of other environmentally conscious superheroes, including a guy whose power was boogers.

I mean, they really made a go at it with this. There were card games, video games…

I really just have no clue why this didn’t catch on. Must be a denial of climate change thing.
